Brent Gray I will have to respectfully disagree with the information in the article. It should have been a clue when apophenia was compared with the likes of pareidolia.Yes; people see what they see. Yes; they make connections that others consider 'unworthy'. But who are those judging what others see/connect, as a psychological 'glitch'? As they judge; do they judge from the stance of knowing ALL?This in itself becomes a 'glitch', as many controls in this world is to control the psychological. And even that goes deeper. Telling people what they saw, or connected is a 'psychological disorder'; is one of the controls.Brent Gray It becomes their way to 'label', so to speak.Marilee NiEtainAuthor Not sure as if I remember anything about disorders. Will have to check again later.Brent Gray Disorders/labeling, was my choice of terms. To label every psychological action/inaction, is a form of control. Before the science of psychology took root, it was just theosophy.Marilee NiEtainAuthorBrent Gray All human communication is a form of "labeling," actually. And measuring things to make sense of them. Symbols are containers of thought with a label attached forming an agreed upon meaning. We would not be very effective in rudamentary communication without agreed upon labels. And what I got out of rereading the article again was an explanation of the human thought process and the correlations of the evolution of our creation of the internet. Resulting in an intellectual black hole of loose associations running amok. And I thought the author did an excellent job of pointing out how when the thought process is allowed to run amok in an effort to gain an illusion of control in a world perceived as uncontrollable we end up with conspiratorial mode vulnerabilities. The age old false belief things in this realm must either be chaos or order spawned a fear of chaos. When in fact this realm and everything in it is both. Chaos came to equate uncontrollable and is highly uncomfortable for those who seek comfort in control. I am not sure of the progression or correlation you are pointing out between psychology and theosophy and am not quite sure which direction to go with that other than they both branched out of a similar philosophy tree but are quite distinguishable. Theosophy, as a science, is much much younger than psychology. Unless you are speaking of Theology. And even Theology came much later than Psychology. It branched off when Psychology was still a "study if the soul" and before the necessity for categories of Theology were birthed in the human psyche. And it was even later that Psychology was shattered into the many schools of thought we have today, with the most damaging focus on cognitive/behavioral taking the fore. Psychology is not just thought and/or behavior. Never was. But the fracturing and conflict separatism of the sciences over time has also been a huge part in the schizoid result of the individual and social psyches that are now compounded by the internet and has resulted in humanity's psyche loosing footing in the sand that was much more solid. And to address "control" am I to assume control is an undesirable thing in this context? I have a hard time equating a desire of finding meaning in thought to a desire of controlling it. I do find solace in being in control of my own thought process to the best of my ability based on any given situation. But I also know the luminous nature of this illusion we erroneously perceive as "solid." I also marvel at human's tendency to have to measure and label things in an attempt to make meaning, to translate, and to communicate. I thank you for the mental gymnastics moment as I worked through this one. Still not sure of what exactly you disagreed with in the article, but the greasing of the cogs was fun. :)Marilee NiEtainAuthor Sorry about the rambling. Many have asked me regarding the metaphorical correlations of the "Demiurge/Wetiko virus" and where it sits in the creation myth. What just came screaming in on that echo is when the fear of chos entered the picture. Not saying that was the actual birth of the virus, but definitely a pivotal point of the war against chaos with the matricide of Tiama, the dragon of the bitter waters/chaos, and the use of her dismembered body to build the replicated Simulation realm in an attempt to control chaos.Marilee NiEtainAuthor How's that for conspiratorial mode dot connecting? lol Pretty good at that abstract mode of thought and search for meaning. Difference is that crux of getting lost in the wonderment of abstract thought and concrete control, huh? Good point. A perfect example of how a human or two that is up to no good preys on the instinctual survival mechanism by purposely laying the stick in your path and playing on the base reaction with more "race to the brainstem," limbic stimulation. When repeated enough the human bio form begins to set up addiction patterns to the emotive chemical hits and "trauma bond" type associations and conditioning. Some can even start down psychosis paths to varying degrees. After even longer repeats, patterns of adrenal fatigue leading to autoimmune system breakdown will eventually start showing. And presto! We have the classic CPTSD pattern. We have seen an explosion in all of these, from simple anxiety to CPTSD and everything in between. When an individual's mind can no longer suspend the discourse of instinct to rational meaning by distnguishing the difference between fact and fantasy (the ability to maintain that metaphor, myth, and analogy are not the same as measurable correlates - but still valid and useful when kept in check) they will eventually become susceptible to the inversion, leading to loose association psychosis.
